7 events in Lancaster County this weekend, from Sommerfest to a strawberry festival (2024)

It's a great weekend to get outside.

Regardless of what motivates you— be it the sweetness of a fresh-picked strawberry or a self-guided garden tour— there's plenty to experience in Lancaster County this weekend.

Other events include a community yard sale, a German Sommerfest, a farm breakfast that doubles as a learning opportunity, a Lancaster city block party and a day dedicated to ice cream.

Here are seven events to check out in Lancaster County.

Linden Hall Community Yard Sale

Pick up some new treasures at the fourth annual Linden Hall Community Yard Sale. The sale will take place over two days, and will feature many different community members selling their no-longer-needed things.

German Sommerfest

Get a taste of Oktoberfest a few months early with Lancaster Liederkranz's Sommerfest event. Attendees can enjoy live entertainment, authentic German food and drinks, activities for kids and more. There will also be a duck race on the Chiques Creek at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Bring a nonperishable food item for the Mount Joy Food Bank and get $1 off adult admission.

Breakfast on the Zimmerman Farm

Join Lancaster Farmland Trust as it celebrates Lancaster Conservancy's Water Week with a farm-based breakfast and learning session. Those who attend will learn about farmland conservation, the Cedar Creek restoration and more.

Strawberry Festival

If you're a fan of strawberries, you likely know that they're in season right now in Lancaster County. (Here's where you can pick them.)

The Amish Farm and House will host an event this weekend dedicated to the sweet red fruits. There will be plenty of fresh strawberries on site, as well as strawberry treats like pies, jams and milkshakes. There will also be a strawberry-themed scavenger hunt.

Strasburg Garden Tour

Take a self-guided tour of several Strasburg gardens this weekend with the annual Strasburg Garden Tour. Tour locations will not be revealed until attendees purchase a ticket online here, or in person Main Street Antiques and Speckled Hen (available until Friday) and the First Presbyterian Church (available Saturday and Sunday).

This tour supports the Strasburg Heritage Society.

Peace in the Streets block party

Culliton Park will be filled with fun activities Saturday for the Peace in the Streets block party as it brings free food, a basketball tournament, water and field games, Bingo and more to Lancaster city's southwest quadrant.

The party will be in honor of Kendell Cook, the owner of Carlisle-based barber shop GQ Barbershop, who was shot and killed in 2021. The party will also honor those lost to gun violence.

In addition to the party's many activities, there will be an open mic themed, "anti-gun violence."

Ice Cream Sundae Day

The Eicher Arts Center in Ephrata will host its annual Ice Cream Sundae Day this weekend, featuring live entertainment, face painting, food, drinks and more. Entertainment includes a performance of "Rumplestiltskin" by the Penn's Woods Puppet Theater, as well as a concert from Celtic band Across the Pond.
