Fans left disappointed by German food at Euro 2024 (2024)

Indulging in hearty fast food before a football match is all part of the fun when watching the action live.

That's why Britons who travelled toGermany for Euro 2024 have been quick to taste the food on offer and share their thoughts on social media.

While the country is respected for delicacies like currywurst and schnitzel, numerous Three Lions fans have struggled to enjoy the meaty dishes.

Football fan Zach, who goes by @zach.footwear on TikTok, was keen to immerse himself in the local food culture, but after trying a currywurst in Munich, he concluded that the dish is 'just a sausage'.

Elsewhere, individuals seeking out home comforts were also left disappointed, including Steve Barr from Scotland who received two slices of unmelted cheese on fries when he requested a plate of cheesy chips.

Elsewhere, Paul Brown from London took to a Munich restaurant in full England football gear to try Weisswurst - a white sausage made from veal and bacon.

According to tradition, those eating the Bavarian sausage should consume all but the skin.

Paul wrote: 'In Munich; I had to try the famous Weisswurst I actually thought it tasted better with the skin on - the locals suck the meat out of the skin.'

The Londoner, who ate the sausage with a pretzel and beer, described it as 'herby' while looking unsatisfied.

Elsewhere, an X user, who goes by the name of @Klimamett, shared a questionable burger on offer at Arena AufSchalke, the location where England beat Serbia.

The bland-looking burger was served with a slice of American cheese and a small amount of ketchup.

Despite being somewhat meagre, a single burger will set you back£5.80, accorind to@Klimamett.

Meanwhile, Steve Barr, from Scotland, caused upset on X after posting an image of the cheesy chips he bought in Frankfurt.

What German 🇩🇪 food do you want me to try next ? In Munich - I had to try the famous Weisswurst I actually thought it tasted better with the skin on - the locals suck the meat out of the skin - 🤮 pic.twitter.com/6PzwMUa9Y1

One X user said: 'This is a bigger letdown than the Scottish Wonka experience,' referring to the immersive experience that saw parents seeking refunds after failing to enjoy the event.

A second wrote: 'What store? Shame the publicly.'

And a third said: 'Can’t believe they actually served that.'

'Those chips have more chance of getting out of the group stages than Scotland,' another added.

A fifth added: 'Sorry this happened to you. Germany just is not ready for the cheese on chips revolution yet.'

Meanwhile, MailSport offered British culinary novices at Euro 2024 the opportunity to try a currywurst and share their verdict.

The pork sausage garnished with curry sauce is typically presented on a white cardboard platter with a two-pronged plastic fork, and can be served with skin or without.

One man, who stripped to the waist to avoid getting sauce on his new England top, gave the currywurst a score of seven out of 10 after trying it for the first time in Germany this weekend.

He initially grimaced after putting the sausage in his mouth, before deciding the aftertaste was better.

Football fans heading to Munich ahead of the Euros are dining on currywursts, including content creator Zach (pictured), from London, who recorded his reaction to the German delicacy

He told MailOnline: 'It's horrible at the start, it's alright at the end - it's alright … it's not alright.

'Fishcake and chips is 10 times better than that. The sausage is too chewy, it's not like a full English - the sausage goes down with a hash brown straight at the start.

'I'd rather English Chinese - chicken balls and chips with sweet and sour sauce - than that.'

Another young supporter, who described himself as a 'fussy eater', was much more enthusiastic.

He said: 'That's class. Bit of spice. It's not actually that bad.' He proceeded to eat another slice but said it was 'not better than fish and chips'.

The young man, who said he did not know what 'cuisine' meant, initially scored currywurst seven out of 10, before increasing it to an eight.
