Old School RS: From Training Simulators to Handy Tips and Tricks (2024)

Old School RS (OSRS) has captivated players for years with its nostalgic appeal and challenging gameplay. As the game evolves, so does the community's approach to mastering its content. One of the latest developments is the introduction of Coliseum and Inferno simulators that can be accessed through your web browser, complete with full 3D models and assets. These simulators have made practicing these intense battles feel remarkably close to the real experience, allowing players to hone their skills and strategies before taking on the actual challenges in the game.

Mastering the Inferno

For many OSRS players, obtaining the Infernal Cape is a prestigious achievement. The Inferno is a grueling PvM challenge that requires precise execution and strategy. The new web-based simulators have been a game-changer for many, including myself. These tools allowed me to practice the entire fight in a simulated environment, significantly improving my performance when I attempted the real Inferno. The simulators are so well-designed that it felt like I was practicing the actual fight, helping me secure the coveted Infernal Cape. If you're looking to prepare for this challenge, I highly recommend checking out these simulators – I’ll leave a link in the description below for those interested.

Efficient Banking with Runelite

Efficiency is key in OSRS, and the Runelite client offers numerous plugins to streamline your gameplay. One of the simplest yet most effective shortcuts is using the Control + F command in your bank. This allows you to search for specific items quickly, and you can even use greater than (>) and less than (<) symbols to filter items by their value. For instance, typing ">5000000" will display only items worth more than 5 million GP. This is a handy tool for quickly finding high-value items in your bank.

Runelite Plugins: Enhancing Your Gameplay

Runelite’s plugin system offers various features that enhance your gameplay. Here are a few noteworthy plugins:

1. No Use Player: This plugin prevents you from accidentally using items on other players, which can be particularly useful during activities that involve multiple players, such as farming runs, birdhouse runs, and mini-games.

2. Monkey Metrics: Essential for burstable Slayer tasks, this plugin shows how many NPCs are stacked on a single tile. If more than nine NPCs are stacked, your bursting spells won’t damage the extra monsters, helping you optimize your training.

3. Action Progress: This plugin displays the original RuneScape action bar, indicating how many seconds remain before your inventory is completed. It’s incredibly useful for skills like crafting, Herblore, and Fletching, allowing you to prepare your next inventory at the right time.

4. Dude Where Is My Stuff: This game-changing plugin helps you keep track of items stored in various locations such as your bank, mini-games, bosses, death coffer, leprechauns, and more. It saves account data and informs you of item quantities without having to check manually, making it invaluable for players with multiple accounts.

Bloodbark Armor: An Underrated Gear Set

Mid-game magic armor often leads players to choose Mystic, but Bloodbark armor is a superior alternative. Recently buffed, Bloodbark offers better defensive stats than Mystic and Void, making it easier to tank hits. It also amplifies Blood Spells, making it excellent for raids, and has higher accuracy than other mid-game magic armors. When paired with the ancient scepter, it can heal you for almost 40% of the damage dealt. I tested this on Dust Devils and nearly went from 25 to 99 hit points with just two casts.

Unexpected Moneymaker: Jewelry Flipping

An interesting moneymaker involves the jewelry shop in Great Kourend’s Piscarilius House. With the release of the Kourend & Kebos Diary, players can buy jewelry from the Grand Exchange (GE) and sell it back to the shop for a profit. For example, diamond bracelets bought for 2,000 GP each can be sold to the shop for 2,600 GP each. Testing this method, I bought 200 of each Ruby and Diamond item for about 2.2 million GP, sold them in the shop, and made a 550k profit in 6 minutes – that’s 5.5 million GP per hour with minimal requirements.

Hunter Skill and Implings

The introduction of the Hunter skill brought the Huntsman’s kit, which allows you to store an infinite amount of imp-in-a-box items. These items let you bank anything in your inventory, including notable items. This method is useful for long Slayer tasks, God Wars Dungeon trips, and Kraken tasks, where you can bank valuable loot without leaving. To catch these imps, you need 71 Hunter, and the best spawn location is the Puro-Puro minigame, where you can catch up to 250 imps per hour.

Prayer Training with Bone Shards

For players' training Prayer, using bone shards at the Prifddinas libation bowl can be a highly effective method. Ironmen can benefit from the infinite stock of jug of wine in the Myths' Guild, eliminating the need to world hop for supplies. Using ancient mace special attacks to boost prayer points and the Varrock teleport for quick banking can yield over 1 million Prayer XP per hour. For those who prefer buying bones, using a chisel to create bone shards offers an efficient alternative.

Profiting from Sailing Speculation

With the anticipated release of the Sailing skill, players can profit by investing in sailor’s clothing and other related items. These items are expected to increase in value as the skill becomes available. Buying sailor’s clothing from shops now and selling them later on the GE can result in significant profits due to rising demand.

World Hopping Limits

Players should be aware of the world hopping limits in OSRS. Each player has roughly 400 world hops available before getting limited out, and 100 world hops are restored every hour. To avoid getting kicked out, it’s best to use fewer than 100 world hops per hour, ensuring continuous gameplay.

OSRS is a game rich with opportunities to optimize and enhance your experience. From practicing tough battles with web-based simulators to utilizing efficient plugins and discovering profitable methods, there are countless ways to improve your gameplay.
