That's not really accurate though. Most of those red counties have very tiny populations. Those larger metro areas would swallow up hundreds of those red counties. There are maps based on this that actually show the population density, and a lot of those red areas are essentially empty.Originally Posted by cubby
Which is exactly why they are proposing it. The GOP will own state-wide elections, including those that decide election rules/etc, until the end of time.
And after this works, they will allocate their Electoral Votes for the Presidential election the same way.
And after that works, other southern/GOP states will do the same. If it goes the way I'm predicting, and assuming there are no blatant legal issues, this is the start of the avalanche that turns 'Murica deep red.
Look at all the states that are blue/purple only because they have large metropolis populations that are blue, with the remainder of the state being red.
The United States is primarily a purple country - but we swing blue on most topics. However, county based, we are red through and through.

Yes, that's the point. By empowering counties it gives "land" more importance than population. There are oodles of practically empty counties that have right-leaning voters which would mean they win more elections since there are fewer, more densely populated Democrat-leaning counties.Originally Posted by Teriz

But that's the point. And the inherent flaw with our current national electoral system. It gives votes to land instead of people. The TX proposal (not yet up for vote or even on the TX legislative agenda) would essentially electorialize the state of Texas, so each county would have one vote for any state wide election. And each county's vote would be determined by a majority of votes within that county.Originally Posted by Teriz

No take another gander at that map, and see all the red counties - Texas would go red and be red until the end of time.

Yeah, that move would be very anti-democratic.
