It would take approximately 4 days to travel from one end of Australia to the other by car. The journey is roughly 3,500 miles long and depending on how many stops you make along the way, it could take anywhere between 40-50 hours of driving time.
It takes about 41 hours continuous driving in ideal conditions to drive from Sydney on the East to Perth on the West. That is obviously unsafe for the average human so some rest stops every few hours and sleep would be needed. Even with 2 drivers taking turns 72 hours would be pushing it.
In reality, a full lap of Australia could be done anywhere between three to four months, but to take in the sights and enjoy yourself along the way, you'd want to leave about a year. For most people looking to experience the country, they don't have this kind of time.
